Thicker leads like this normally flatten out into a blunt edge fairly quickly, causing smudgy, blurred text this pencil avoids that with an internal gear that rotates the lead by about 9 with every lift, keeping the tip a clean, rounded cone even at this thicker gauge. That gives the strength of a bold lead without losing the
