but under magnification I believe they are some other metal and painted a brassy gold tone

I'd think done by a girl fairly early on in developing her embroidery skills

Whoever assembled it did a pretty nice job

1920s German "Toilettez" Flip Open Surprise Clown with Mechanical Tongue old mechanical toy This has lost some ofI found this a great delight when I first open it, and continue to be delighted by it each time I do! 1920s German, with "Toilettez" embossed in gold on the front, I believe to suggest it would be a pocket mirror held inside. (Translation is basically "you groom.") But instead of your face, here this clown, whose eyes roll and big red tongue extends incrementally as you open it, until that tongue is all the way out. Great graphics and good fun! 3 9
