John C. Mendall's 19th C. School Notebook Filled with All Sorts of Stuff! rustic pottery bowl with their great black bordersThe speckled blue paper cover of this notebook drew me to it, but it's the bird drawing on the inside of the front cover that sold me, with the words "Bird of the air No. 2" trailing down. (My first photo is a composite of cover and first inside page.) Having now spent a little time with it's pages, I've determine that the John C. Mendell who kept it was a kindred spirit a terrible note taker it looks to me, instead filling the pages with names and
