It was on the eastern wall of the old city, not far from the Mount of Olives, and is believed by Christians to be the gate Jesus used in his triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The consensus among scholars is that the Golden Gate is the oldest gate in Jerusalem, and that the current gate is in the same location as the one that Jesus rode through on the colt, and likely contains pillars
