I'd call this great old tin and wood toy candlestick telephone a teaching toy--and increasingly so

all the more so for missing an ear on one side of it

(Lots about that history here. ) There are plenty of photos of it out there, historic and contemporary, but none I've found that portrays a sense of this grassy expanse from which one might look up at it. And for me it's all about that perspective, with only the heads and shoulders of this seated pair visible, their bodies
